The mixed relay was the final event of World Cup #3.  Phaelen French and Tristen Bell teamed up for Team USA to compete against the best in the world. The day started out with the fencing ranking round. Team USA stayed consistent throughout the event and had a strong finish, winning the last 3 out of 4 bouts. Their total score of 201 put them in 9th place for the event. The riding event was up next. They drew some horses that were good but needed to be ridden correctly. French went first and got around the course clean, but Bell had some difficulties, refusing 2 jumps. Their total score of 236 was 14th place in the event and put them down to 13th place overall. The bonus round was up next. Their first opponent was Canada. Bell started things off with a victory and French followed that up with a victory of her own, beating Canada 2-0 and winning the bout. Their next opponent was the team from the Czech Republic. French was able to get the first victory, but Bell ended up losing the next two bouts; Team USA lost the bout 1-2. Their one bonus round victory got them 2 extra points added to their fencing score. Heading into the swimming event, Team USA was in 13th place. Swimming in heat one, French got off to a fast start the first 100 and Bell was able to bring in home with a 57 second split for his 100. Their time of 2:03.37 was 12th place in the event and moved them up to 12th place overall before the laser run. French and Bell both had strong runs and strong shoots, their total time of 12:59 was the 6th fastest for the event. They were able to move up one spot to finish in 11th place overall with a total score of 1264.

 

Up next for Team USA will be World Cup #4 in Sofia, Bulgaria which takes place May 8th through 13th. GO TEAM USA!!!
