2023 Modern Pentathlon Championships Have Begun
2023 World Championships Day 1
The first day of the 2023 UIPM Senior World Championships kicked off with the fencing ranking round robin for both the women and men's relay. Team USA athletes Phaelen French and Madison Gonzalez fenced against 12 nations, all eyeing a gold medal.
Both French and Gonzalez had strong touches against top athletes with French ending the day with 11 victories and Gonzalez managing 4 victories to finish in the 12th spot ranking.
Team Mexico leads the fence with 29 total victories followed by Egypt and Korea both with 28 victories. Only 56 points separate the group of women which will surely lead to an exciting finish.
As the relay competition progresses into tomorrow it will commence with riding then will be followed by the remaining disciplines in the 90-minute format. Team USA is looking to improve and move up in the ranking before the individual event starts on Wednesday. Both athletes are using the relay as a chance to warm up and find their rhythm before the main event begins.
