Colonel Guy Troy, 1952 USA Pentathlon Olympian and former President turns 100 years old today, March 15th. 

The ides of March this year bring celebration to the Pentathlon world as Colonel Guy Troy joins the 100 club. 

Born March 15, 1923, Colonel Troy of North Carolina began his international sports career following his nomination to the United States Military Academy. He arrived at the academy in July 1943, graduated in 1946, and was assigned to the armor branch of the US Army. Troy returned to West Point in 1951 as commander of the Pentathlon Training Center where he led the Pan American and Olympic Modern Pentathlon team as athlete and coach while competing in the 1951 Pan American Games, bringing home the gold medal from those inaugural games and then in the 1952 Olympic Games of Helsinki, Finland in the Modern Pentathlon event. His other duties included oversight of the last horses at the West Point Riding Hall. Troy retired from the US Army as a Colonel.

After retiring from the military, Troy began a career in farming where he managed the Woodlot Management Equipment Company that raised and sold corn, soybeans, wheat, and trees. He continued his involvement in modern pentathlon serving as secretary and later president of the US Modern Pentathlon Association, vice president of the International Modern Pentathlon Union, a member of the board of directors of the US Olympic Committee, and president and founder of the Pan American Modern Pentathlon Confederation. 

Colonel Troy is the World’s oldest living Olympian in the sport of Modern Pentathlon and the World’s 13th oldest Olympian in all sports.
