USAPM Charlotte Resident Program

The Charlotte Resident Program (CRP) is a development initiative of USA Pentathlon Multisport, operated in partnership with the US Performance Center in Charlotte, NC. This application-only program is designed to identify, support, and elevate athletes with exceptional potential across the core disciplines of modern pentathlon: fencing, swimming, running, shooting, and obstacle (OCR/ninja).

The CRP Team offers a high-performance training environment focused on technical mastery, athletic development, and multi-discipline exposure. It serves as a critical pipeline to national and international competition, preparing athletes to represent the United States at the highest levels.

The CRP maintains a maximum of 12 full-time resident athletes, ensuring personalized coaching and tailored development plans. Athletes accepted into the resident program receive:

  • Full-time coaching across all five pentathlon disciplines
  • Housing, meals, and local transport may be available
  • Integrated strength and conditioning support
  • Individualized performance plans
  • Athlete agreements outlining goals, conduct, and expectations

Participation is performance-based, with periodic evaluations to ensure continued alignment with program standards.

Short-term training opportunities may be available for qualified non-resident athletes, subject to application approval and space availability at the USPC. If accepted, these athletes will pay a per diem and may receive partial or full support based on review by the USA Pentathlon Multisport performance team.

The CRP Team is open to athletes with a strong athletic foundation in at least one of the following disciplines:

  • Swimming
  • Running
  • Fencing
  • Obstacle (Ninja/Obstacle Course Racing)

Prior experience in modern pentathlon is not required, but a growth mindset, strong work ethic, and readiness to embrace a multi-sport training lifestyle are essential.

Athletes will be evaluated through a combination of objective metrics and coach assessments. Selection criteria include:

  • Age and stage of athletic development
  • Competitive background and results
  • Discipline-specific skills and training history
  • Full-time availability and willingness to relocate to Charlotte
  • Personal character, resilience, and team compatibility
  • Coachability and long-term development potential

All applicants are reviewed individually. Selected candidates may be invited for further evaluation via virtual interview or in-person visit.

Interested athletes must complete and submit the CRP Application Form. Please note:

  • Submission does not guarantee acceptance
  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis
  • Space is limited and highly competitive
