  • Budapest (HUN) and Cairo (EGY) awarded Pentathlon World Championships
  • United States returns as Pentathlon World Cup host ahead of LA28 Olympics
  • Multi-sport competitions heading to India, Indonesia and Kuwait

The Executive Board (EB) of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) met on August 27-28 and made a wide-ranging series of decisions relating to the future of UIPM Sports.

Many of the decisions focused on the awarding of competitions and events, with dates confirmed for 2026 and the majority of the 2027-28 calendar allocated to hosts, giving National Federations and athletes a clear roadmap to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The flagship UIPM Pentathlon World Championships, which is currently taking place in the Zalgiris Arena in Kaunas (Lithuania) will return to Budapest (Hungary) in 2027 and Cairo (Egypt) in 2028.

The UIPM Pentathlon World Cup circuit will return to the United States in 2027, with West Hollywood in Los Angeles hosting one of the four regular-season rounds. The same municipality – home to the city’s famous Sunset Strip – will also host the global Pentathlon community during UIPM 2028 Congress.

Development in Asia, meanwhile, continues at pace with India, Indonesia and Kuwait earning competition hosting rights at the meeting of a day when a record number of bids were evaluated.

The EB agreed to determine the destination of the next two UIPM Congresses. The non-electoral 2026 Congress will be open to online delegates, held out of Monaco, while the electoral UIPM 2028 Congress will take place in West Hollywood, United States.

Looking to next season, the EB awarded the UIPM 2026 Masters World Championships to Cape Town, South Africa, and confirmed that the Pentathlon World Cup season will start in Cairo (EGY) on 8 April, followed by rounds in Pazardzhik (BUL) in May and Budapest (HUN) in June – with the Hungarian capital also hosting the Pentathlon World Cup Final in the first week of July. All 2026 dates will be added to the events calendar in the coming days.

UIPM President Rob Stull OLY said: “Here in Kaunas we are revealing to the world the incredible potential of our new cutting-edge Pentathlon, which also provided the guiding light of our invigorating Executive Board meeting. It’s so exciting that our sports will expand into new frontiers in 2027 and 2028 while also returning to the countries where we have enjoyed great times in the past.

“I’m so grateful to the UIPM Executive Board for two days of intelligent, frank and thoughtful conversations about the forward trajectory of our sport. We are laser-focused on enhancing the commercial viability of our sport, expanding our global movement and opening it up to new audiences.”
